Despite hardly being a box office smash, the super-entertaining 2014 sci-fi action flick/Groundhog Day mash-up Edge of Tomorrow is to receive a sequel.

It actually did really well on home release, where some titular confusion was caused by large “Live. Die. Repeat.” tagline branding. It seems that director Doug Liman was a fan of that much more appropriate description of the movie, as Collider reports that he’s announced that a sequel is happening, and that it will be called Live. Die. Repeat and Repeat.

Hmm, just a little bit clunky.

Anyway, while there’s no confirmed date for filming to commence, Liman is adamant that it will be a goer.

“The big question is just when we’ll do it. But it’s not an ‘if’, it’s a ‘when’.”

He’s very excited about the new script, exclaiming, “We have an amazing story! It’s incredible! Way better than the first film, and I obviously loved the first film.” He goes on to say that Live. Die. Repeat and Repeat. will “revolutionise how people make sequels.”

Liman confirms that Emily Blunt and the writer of the original, Christopher McQuarrie, are back on board. He also says that Tom Cruise is excited by the ideas for the sequel. Will we get to watch him die over and over and over again? We’ve often wondered whether that was why Edge of Tomorrow ended up becoming so popular…
