Yes, the known pirate is turning to the side of computing good in a new flick based on the life of wonderfully eccentric McAfee Antivirus creator John McAfee.

Entitled King of the Jungle, the dark comedy has nothing to do with Tarzan and everything to do with the Hefner-esque software author. It’s based on a story that appeared in Wired, about McAfee’s exploits after selling up his stake in his company back in 1994, taking the money and hot-footing it to Belize. He then set up his own compound in the jungle and filled it with the usual stuff like women, guns, drugs…

He has popped his head up since though, most notably when attempting to run for the US presidency in the last campaign. He’s also claimed that his software is now “one of the worst products on the f**king planet”.

While Depp is starring, King of the Jungle will be directed by the guys behind Crazy, Stupid, Love and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. The same pair who are rumoured to be attached to a flick based in the Looney Tunes Acme factory. That is, of course, the favoured one-stop emporium of Wile E. Coyote – Genius.

Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski are writing the script for King of the Jungle, having previously delivered such works based on real people as Ed Wood and The People vs. Larry Flynt (ah, that Courtney Love, what an actor!)

If you want to know more about John McAfee, and why it looks like he’ll make an excellent subject for a movie, his YouTube channel could be a very good place to start. We’d post a link, but the content we checked out was WAY too NSFW.
