THE GREATEST SHOWMAN
If you’re going to swoon at Hugh Jackman doing his music man thing, why not do it in the best possible fashion? This release rolls up with a native 4K transfer that’s HDR enhanced, accompanied by a rollicking Dolby Atmos soundtrack – plus we get extras on the 4K disc! There’s a commentary from director Michael Gracey, direct access to each musical number, and a fun sing-along mode, with lyric subtitles appearing during songs as you watch the movie.
2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY
Stanley Kubrick’s sci-fi game-changer hits 4K via a splendid remastering, delivering us a native 4K transfer with both Dolby Vision and standard HDR enhancement. The movie may be 51 years old, but it can still stun, both visually and sonically. Speaking of, two different DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mixes are the order of the day, with the impressive 1999 remix, and the original 1968 six-track audio tweaked for DTS. There’s also a commentary from actors Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood.
Can’t get enough of that cheeky red-clad dude in 4K? Yes, we’re talking Deadpool, of course, and he makes one heck of a splash on 4K with his second movie. This bumper release includes both the theatrically released version of the flick, as well as the longer “Super Duper $@%!#& Cut”. It’s a HDR-totin’ release that sees all of that fab vision accompanied by a slamming Dolby Atmos audio track. Bad Deadpool? No, good Deadpool!
Whoa! Keanu Reeves’s Neo comes to 4K in pure 4K remastered from the original 35mm film, complete with both HDR and Dolby Vision enhancement. A brand-new Dolby Atmos mix has also been created for this new release of the Wachowskis’ mind-blowing modern sci-fi/action classic, which comes with a text intro from the pair as well as a whopping FOUR audio commentaries (“Philosopher”, “Critics”, “Cast & Crew” and “Composer”).
Director Damien Chazelle’s very highly-regarded – and with good reason – biopic about world-famous astronaut Neil Armstrong, starring Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy, looks great on 4K Ultra HD, even with its upscaled 2K transfer (featuring both Dolby Vision and standard HDR encoding). This is accompanied by a Dolby Atmos audio track that’s simply massive at times – when big rockets go now it really is something for your ears to behold.
THE LION KING
Disney’s Shakespearean musical adventure, based around the circle of life as it applies to the laws of the jungle, was the studio’s first (mainly) hand animated tale to hit 4K Ultra HD. It managed to do so with essentially flawless upscaled 2K vision from the 2011 remastering, and a brand-new Dolby Atmos audio experience that really shows its value when those famous musical numbers kick in. Not to mention the bass in the stampede scene – hold onto your couch!
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT
Watch Tom Cruise risk his life – again – to entertain us via this latest M:I instalment. Watch him do it in glorious native 4K, too, which is both Dolby Vision and HDR enhanced – just wait until you experience the climactic scenes when they go all IMAX! Sound, meanwhile, comes via a very active Dolby Atmos mix that’s full of thrills. There are even several extras on the 4K disc, with three commentaries and an isolated soundtrack.
BLADE RUNNER 2049
It may not have set box office records ablaze, but Blade Runner 2049 appears to be following in its forebear’s footsteps by slow burning a cult following. Get in on that future cultdom early with this Dolby Vision/standard HDR enhanced 4K release, which gives cinematographer Roger Deakins’s hard work a chance to really shine – it looks an absolute treat. Meanwhile, a crisp Dolby Atmos soundtrack will really keep your home theatre jumping and thumping.
