What other new releases hit 4K Ultra HD in November?
The Babadook
Release date: November 3
Writer/director Jennifer Kent’s creepy-as 2014 horror-drenched drama gave us the shivers in more detail than ever as it made its way onto the 4K Ultra HD format. If you missed it first time around, it’s the tale of a widowed mother who struggles to deal with her son’s heightened fear of monsters, which hits overdrive when a strange book about a monster that lives in the shadows – the Babadook – turns up in their home. Expect a native 4K transfer featuring HDR enhancement, and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound, coupled by a huge array of bonus features both old and new. These include an audio commentary, several interviews, a making of featurette and Kent’s short film Monster.
Don’t Breathe 2
Release date: November 10
Norman Nordstrom – aka the Blind Man – returned, and had to deal with another home invasion – presented in native 4K with HDR enhancement, plus wonderfully creepy Dolby Atmos audio. Three featurettes, two commentaries and one extended ending are all included on both the 4K disc and a handy bonus standard Blu-ray.
The Howling
Release date: November 10
Joe Dante – the same director who later gave us Gremlins – brought the scares with his movie take on the novel The Howling. A trip to a secluded resort sees recent crime victim Karen White (Dee Wallace) and her husband encountering a rather odd series of people – and that’s before the couple realise that they’re werewolves! This is a brand new native 4K restoration of the horror treat, complete with DTS-HD Master Audio sound and a selection of deleted scenes, outtakes, a special effects featurette and a look back at the career of Dante.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Release date: November 12
The latest treat from Marvel, in which Shang-Chi must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organisation, hit with both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. While the 4K disc doesn’t house any extras, a bonus standard Blu-ray delivers an audio commentary, two brief featurettes, a gag reel and over 14 minutes of deleted scenes. There’s also a cool JB-exclusive steelbook edition available that you can order now.
Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome
Release date: November 17
No expense was spared in restoring this and delivering it in native 4K (with HDR enhancement), and a Dolby Atmos audio mix that certainly livens up proceedings in the Thunderdome.
Unbreakable
Release date: November 17
The kicking off point for what has become a trilogy of films from M. Night Shyamalan, Bruce Willis and Samuel Jackson star as two very different humans in this noir-tinged superhero thriller. After a run-in with a train, Willis’ David Dunn is the only survivor and, when he encounters Jackson’s Elijah Prince, Dunn learns the stranger’s theory that some people are, basically, Unbreakable… This one headed our way with an HDR-enhanced native 4K transfer, and a new DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix. A 4K disc-only affair, there are no special features included.
