STAR WARS: EPISODE IV – A NEW HOPE
If you’re hoping to see Star Wars (as was it was known back in ’77) better than you’ve ever seen it, you’re going to love this disc. With no need for massive compression, this native 4K presentation is stellar, with added HDR and Dolby Atmos sound. Two bonus Blu-rays deliver two commentaries and a collection of featurettes, trailers, interviews, deleted scenes and more.
Right from the opening tracking shot over neon-soaked future Los Angeles you’ll be convinced Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi masterpiece is one of the best discs to show off 4K Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos sound. A Blu-ray version is also included, along with a DVD featuring the three-and-a-half-hour documentary Dangerous Days: Making Blade Runner.
Francis Ford Coppola’s epic war film came to 4K Ultra HD in a new ‘Final Cut’ running at just over three hours. It has been fully restored in native 4K resolution, and given the Dolby Vision (and HDR should you require it instead) treatment and a brand new Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Detail is at a premium in this impressive 1x 4K, 2x standard Blu-ray package.
ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD
Quentin Tarantino’s ninth film is a love letter to the Hollywood of the late 1960s, and it landed on 4K Ultra HD with an HDR-enhanced native 4K transfer accompanied by a very good DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 sound mix. The 4K disc also includes 25 minutes of additional scenes, plus links to the various songs in the movie for easy access.
BLACK HAWK DOWN
This incredible tale, based on actual events in early 1990s Somalia, came to 4K Ultra HD with stunning brand-new HDR-enhanced 4K transfers of the original theatrical cut and the eight-minute longer extended version, both of which were approved by director Ridley Scott. Added to this are powerful new Dolby Atmos sound mixes for both cuts that really push surround setups to the limit.
The Queen biopic’s showpiece is Oscar-winner Rami Malek’s uncanny transformation into frontman Freddie Mercury, and the 4K Ultra HD release is equally impressive, with HDR and a Dolby Atmos track that’s guaranteed to rock you. The 4K disc also features the complete recreation of Queen’s Live Aid set that was filmed for the flick.
FORD V FERRARI
The exhilarating true tale that revolves around 1960s Le Mans 24-hour supremacy raced onto the 4K Ultra HD format complete with stunning HDR-enhanced vision. While the detailed picture looks incredible, what elevates this disc to demo status is the power of the Dolby Atmos audio, which really goes the extra mile to immerse us deep in the racing action.
ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL
James Cameron’s pet project, in which a robotics specialist discovers a living cyborg core and recreates the being in the image of his late daughter, hit 4K Ultra HD in style, boasting a detailed Dolby Vision/HDR10+ enhanced picture along with almost overwhelming Dolby Atmos sound. Another demo-worthy 4K UHD release.
Stephen King and John Carpenter’s tale of a geeky teenager and his possessed Plymouth Fury hit 4K Ultra HD with a slick native 4K transfer (from the original camera negative) that’s HDR enhanced, plus a new Dolby Atmos audio mix. This 37-year-old film looks simply magnificent; Christine’s chrome shines like never before, while her deep red paintwork mesmerises.
A distinctly adult take on the superhero genre, Watchmen is an intense and ultra-violent comic book adventure. Available exclusively at JB Hi-Fi, this is the Dolby Vision-enhanced, Zack Snyder “Ultimate Cut” of the film running an epic 215 minutes, combining the “Director’s Cut” of the film with the animated Tales of the Black Freighter storyline interwoven throughout.
