Production commenced this week on Molly’s Game, the directorial debut of celebrated screenwriter Aaron Sorkin.

Based on Molly Bloom’s memoir of the same name, the film tells the true story of a young, Olympic-class skier who ending up running the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game.

Jessica Chastain takes the title role, while the starry supporting cast includes Idris Elba (pictured below with Chastain in a selfie they posted at last year’s Oscars), Kevin Costner, Michael Cera and Chris O’Dowd. Sorkin won an Oscar for The Social Network and his other screen credits include Steve Jobs, Moneyball and A Few Good Men, plus the TV series The West Wing and The Newroom.

“I’m grateful to Molly Bloom for trusting me with this incredible story,” he says. “Molly is a unique movie heroine and I’m confident that Jessica, along with Idris, Kevin and the rest of the cast are going to deliver electrifying performances.”

Molly’s Game is expected to be released sometime in 2017.
