High finance thriller Billions will be back next year for a third series.

US network Showtime has greenlit a new season of the show, the second series of which began airing last month.

Billions chronicles the bitter battle between US prosecutor Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) and billionaire hedge fund king Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Damian Lewis). Other cast regulars include Maggie Siff and Malin Akerman, while guest stars lined up for season 2 include Rob Morrow, Eric Bogosian and Mary-Louise Parker.

Showtime president David Nevins says: “Season two is off to a tremendous start and has only whetted our audience’s appetite for what will come in season three.”
