Last year an epic box set released in the US featuring six classic Columbia movies on 4K Ultra HD, This year, another one’s coming.
To this date, and extremely frustratingly, none of those original six – Mr Smith Goes to Washington, Lawrence of Arabia, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, Gandhi, A League of Their Own and Jerry Maguire – have been released in either box set or single form in Australia. Still, we hope against hope that this gem-laden collection may see our shores.
This time around the lavish box set will house new 4K Ultra HD releases of Anatomy of a Murder, Oliver!, Sense and Sensibility, Stripes, Taxi Driver and The Social Network. Seriously, Stripes on 4K (and with Dolby Atmos sound, too)! Taxi Driver on 4K! “Are you talkin’ to me?” – hey, we’d love to be, Rob, even if it is a bit weird talking to the telly!
As well as new 4K restorations of the included films, The Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection Volume 2 will be packed with a hardbound 80-page book, as well as a bonus disc of classic Columbia shorts. It’s set to release in the US on September 14.
Want to see this, or at least some of the movies included released in Australia? Let’s all make some noise people! Also, tell us which movie of these you’d most like to see on our STACK social network…
