The action-oozing trailer for the much talked-about sequel to Robin Williams’ Jumanji, starring Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart and Jack Black, has dropped overnight. Here are some things that we noticed about the Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle trailer.

1: Original plot: Four teenaged stereotypes are stuck together in detention – a geek, a jock, an alternative chick and a beauty queen. Hmm. We’ll think more about this after breakfast

2: Product placement: Hey Sony, real subtle – giant posters for PS4 games Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and The Last Guardian on the bedroom wall of one of the kids. Hint: It wasn’t the jock’s.

3: New game: Forget board games, they’re so last century (although their vinyl-like renaissance in the real world might beg to differ). This time Jumanji is a video game, on an obviously-supposed-to-be-old console (it has wood panels) that has surprisingly good graphics.

4: Characters: The game has four character avatars, from which each of our unsuspecting teens chooses before being absorbed into the game’s world. Dr Smolder Bravestone – archaeologist, international explorer (Johnson), Franklin ‘Moose’ Finbar – expert in weapons and zoology (Hart), Professor Shelly Oberon – cartographer, code-breaker, curvy genius (Black – the “curvy” may give away who chose this) and Ruby Roundhouse – fighter, killer of men (Gillan).

5: Rock: No, not the star of the show. They picked the most obvious song imaginable to accompany the trailer. Mr Rose and Mr Slash say “Kerching!” now.

6: RARRRRRRRRRR! While little of the original’s story appears to remain beyond the presence of a game that sucks you in, jungle animals do abound. Except this time they’re where they belong and the players aren’t.

Press start on Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle when it hits Australian cinemas on December 26.
