Things get serious in the upcoming The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot, Bel-Air, as we can tell from its first proper trailer.
Rather than being a straight-up plucking of the original from its ’90s home and plopping it into the 21st century, this take on the Will Smith series is set to be a dramatic affair.
It all started with a fan-made video released by filmmaker Morgan Cooper back in 2019, which pitched the show as a drama. It went viral, and Will Smith happened upon it. He loved the idea, and now it’s getting the series treatment with both Smith and Cooper’s involvement.
Bel-Air is set to feature hour-long episodes that stay true to the original premise of a boy from Philadelphia hitting Los Angeles, while upping the drama rather than the laughs.
