Penny Marshall’s smash ’90s movie A League of Their Own has been reinvented as a series, and we now have our first decent look at it.
There may be no sign of Madonna, Geena Davis or Tom Hanks, but it still boasts an impressive cast.
Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) is joined by Chanté Adams, Kate Berlant, D’Arcy Carden, Roberta Colindrez, Priscilla Delgado, Molly Ephraim, Melanie Field, Gbemisola Ikumelo and Kelly McCormack, while Parks and Recreation‘s Nick Offerman takes on the Tom Hanks coach role.
While most of us already know the story, having a whole series to luxuriate in rather than just the running length of a movie is set to expand the narrative.
Here’s the official word: “A League of Their Own evokes the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall’s beloved classic, while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball. The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the League and outside of it.”
A League of Their Own is set to batter us up in August. Here’s a teaser for it, complete with the always welcome Stevie Nicks and her track Edge of Seventeen:
