The West Wing remains one of the most powerful TV series ever, and gave us a glimpse of what could have been. Now, more than ever, it’s time for a reunion special.
The special in question is entitled A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote, and is set to air in the US on October 15.
Original cast members Allison Janney, Rob Lowe, Dulé Hill, Janel Moloney, Richard Schiff, Bradley Whitford and Martin Sheen all return for a staged reading of the season three episode Hartsfield’s Landing, with hopes of raising awareness and support for non-profit organisation When We All Vote. Co-chaired by Michelle Obama, their aim is to increase voting participation in the upcoming presidential election, as voting isn’t compulsory in the US as it is in Australia.
Series creator Aaron Sorkin and director Thomas Schlamme return for the special presentation, which also boasts special guests including Sterling K. Brown, Samuel L. Jackson, Elisabeth Moss (who played the president’s daughter in the series), Michelle Obama, President Bill Clinton and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Here’s a preview – if you’re a fan then you’re sure to react the moment that iconic theme kicks in…
