A while back there was the shock announcement that there’d be no Doctor Who Christmas special this year. Now we know it’s because there’ll be a New Year’s one instead.

Yep, no lump of coal for fans this year, they just have to wait another week for Who Year’s Day (seriously) to land.

While we’ve no info on airing locally, in the US they’re making a big thing of it, with a marathon of all the Who Chrissie specials over the week leading up to the turn of 2019.

The new episode is, appropriately, set at New Year’s. As we all change our calendars, “a terrifying evil is stirring from across the centuries of Earth’s history”. But Doctor Who and her mates will save us all, won’t they?

“We’re thrilled to be starting the New Year with a bang,” showrunner Chris Chibnall told Deadline, “as Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor and friends face a terrifying alien threat in an action-packed, hour-long special adventure for all the family.”
