Vanity Fair‘s latest cover feature isn’t just a bunch of ace Marvel character photos, it also drops hints as to the future of the massive movie franchise.
The biggest one is that which is currently known simply as Avengers 4 (apparently the actual title is spoileriffic), the follow-up to the May 4, 2018-due Avengers: Infinity War, will be the finale of one book of Marvel.
Says Marvel Cinematic Universe supremo Kevin Feige, “Avengers 4 will bring things you’ve never seen in superhero films: a finale. There will be two distinct periods. Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after. I know it will not be in ways people are expecting.”
With contracts running out and age doing its unbeatable thing – plus literally hundreds of other Marvel characters ripe for the moviemaking – it was destined to happen.
So, what else is on the horizon beyond Infinity War and its sequel? Try these on for size:
Black Panther (February 15, 2018)
The New Mutants (April 12, 2018)
Deadpool 2 (May 31, 2018)
Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 5, 2018)
Venom (October 4, 2018)
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (November 1, 2018)
Gambit (February 13, 2019))
Captain Marvel (March 7, 2019)
Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 (July 4, 2019)
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 (TBC)
While some of those are just working titles, it’s a busy schedule – and Feige promises more.
“We’ve got another 20 movies on the docket that are completely different from anything that’s come before – intentionally.”
Whoa, we can’t wait to find out who else will get the treatment. President Bear anybody? Peter Porker/Spider-Ham?
Meanwhile, check out those Marvel-lous pics we mentioned…
