The Sopranos was one of the absolutely greatest things to ever grace our TV screens, so news that another slice is in development is music to our ears.

Series creator David Chase has collaborated with former The Sopranos writer Lawrence Konner on the script for The Many Saints of Newark, according to Deadline.

The prequel is set to take place decades before events of The Sopranos, focusing on the Newark riots of the 1960s, which saw African-Americans and Italians in the midst of a lethal turf war.

Obviously most of our favourites from the series won’t feature due to having not been born at the time this one’s set, however there is scope for characters like Tony Soprano’s parents and some of the crew such as Junior.

The Many Saints of Newark – possibly a working title – will come to us via HBO when it’s darned well good and ready, OK?

Meanwhile, here’s a friendly reminder of what made The Sopranos so great – and, perhaps needless to say, LANGUAGE WARNING
