In news that will bring cuss words of joy to the mouths of Deadwood fans everywhere, production of a movie to tie up loose ends is underway after 12 long years.
Even better news is that most of the original cast are moseying on back for it, with (alphabetically) Dayton Callie, Kim Dickens, Brad Dourif, Anna Gunn, John Hawkes, Paula Malcomson, Gerald McRaney, Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant, Molly Parker, William Sanderson and Robin Weigert all signing on.
New to the Deadwood world will be Jade Pettyjohn, playing a character named Caroline.
Appropriately – and likely also to cover what will be obvious age differences – the movie is set to occur 10 years after the original series. The story goes something like this, according to HBO: Deadwood residents are reunited after a decade to celebrate South Dakota’s statehood. Former rivalries are reignited, alliances are tested and old wounds are reopened, as all are left to navigate the inevitable changes that modernity and time have wrought.
Here’s a reminder of how good Deadwood was – and needless to say it requires a LANGUAGE WARNING.
