DC certainly do have some fun with Batman. Fresh from popping back in time to the Victorian era in Gotham by Gaslight, he’s now off for a jaunt in Feudal Japan in Batman Ninja.
Featuring characters designed by Afro Samurai‘s Kazuki Nakashima, Batman Ninja will feature Japanese versions of goodies Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin, Robin, Alfred and Catwoman. In the baddie corner there’ll be The Joker, Harley Quinn, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Two-Face, Clayface, Deathstroke, Bane and Gorilla Grodd. It’s to be an authentic anime experience, too, fully made in Japan.
As for the story, it’s set to pit Batman against famed villains who have taken the place of feudal lords, thanks to Gorilla Grodd’s time displacement machine. Without his fancy modern tech weapons to rely on, Batman must use his guile – and friends – in order to defeat the usual suspects and find a way to return to Gotham.
Look out for Batman Ninja soon. Meanwhile, you can read our 4K review of Gotham by Gaslight here.
