Some movies drop unexpectedly, while others take so long you can go grey waiting. A third outing for Bill & Ted is one such flick, but Keanu Reeves keeps drip-feeding us new info, believing that – at some point – it will be done.
The latest news, thanks to an aside at a New York Comic-Con panel for his new film Replicas, is that we know that it’s to be called Bill & Ted Face the Music – whoa, that’s just like our headline!
Update: Actually, the latest, latest news is that it’s definitely happening! According to THR, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter will be back as “Ted” Theodore Logan and “Bill” S. Preston Esq., and the details below this very paragraph are basically accurate. Bill & Ted Face the Music has been penned by original creators Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, and will be directed by Dean Parisot, who gave us the most excellent Galaxy Quest. Pre-production is apparently underway.
“We couldn’t be more excited to get the whole band back together again,” Reeves and Winter said. “Chris and Ed wrote an amazing script, and with Dean at the helm we’ve got a dream team!”
Unfortunately, as excellent as fans might think it would be to revisit the two rather dim but like totally lovable dudes, things aren’t always as simple as them. As Reeves says, “There’s a script out there. We’re just trying to get it made. Show business is tough.”
As for the story? We knew a while back that Bill and Ted are tasked with writing a song that will, basically, save the world from all manner of horrors. Reeves has elaborated a little, saying “It’s a cautionary tale. They’re supposed to save the world. But when we see them, they haven’t saved the world, and they’re married and have kids. And they’re playing to nobody. But they have to write the song… and face the music! Hopefully we’ll make it before I’m 60.”
Hopefully they will! In the meantime, remember to be excellent to each other… and PARTY ON DUDES!
