A darling of the festival circuit recently – and apparently with good reason – indie dramedy Brigsby Bear has been given an Australian release date.

Starring Saturday Night Live‘s Kyle Mooney as a guy named James, Brigsby Bear is the tale of a man who is obsessed with a TV show from his childhood – one where he believed the people he lived with were his parents, when actually they were his kidnappers. Thrust into the big wide world in his mid-20s, James clings to the one TV show he knew, even though it was an invention of his captors. As it ended rather abruptly, he sets about making a movie version of Brigsby Bear Adventures to achieve closure – and make sense of his world.

Produced by The LEGO Movie‘s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (yes, the recently sacked Han Solo movie directors), Mark Hamill, Greg Kinnear, Claire Danes and Andy Samberg also star in Brigsby Bear, which will see limited cinematic release in Australia from September 21.

Just try not to be intrigued by this trailer…
