The smash broadway hit Dear Evan Hansen is making its way back to us in movie form, and there’s an extended trailer if you’d like to basically get the entire plot in just under four minutes.
If you missed it – and the show’s way of handling mental health issues has caused quite some controversy and a whole lot of internet invective – it’s about “an anxious, isolated high schooler aching for understanding and belonging amid the chaos and cruelty of the social-media age.”
From The Perks of Being a Wallflower director Stephen Chbosky, and starring original Broadway star Ben Platt as the central teen (even though he’s now 27), Dear Evan Hansen features a bunch of songs from the team of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who also penned the odd solid tune for La La Land and The Greatest Showman.
Dear Evan Hansen also stars Amy Adams, Julianne Moore, Kaitlyn Dever, Amandla Stenberg, Colton Ryan, Nik Dodani, DeMarius Copes and Danny Pino, and is scheduled to release in Australian cinemas from December 9.
