It’s one of the most worshipped TV shows ever, and Joss Whedon’s brainchild is getting the reboot treatment. Yes, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is coming back to get all vampy stabby again.
It’s early days for the new take on the old favourite, however Deadline reports that Monica Owusu-Breen – who’s previously been involved with the likes of Alias, Lost, Fringe, Agents of SHIELD and Midnight, Texas – has been signed up as writer, executive producer and showrunner.
Possibly the best news is that Buffy’s creator, Joss Whedon, is set to be involved in an executive producer capacity, along with other original producer-types Gail Berman, Fran Kazui and Kaz Kazui.
It’s insanely early days for the project, which is apparently script-less at this time. However, it is set to be a contemporary update on the Buffyverse, with producers confirming their desire to have an African-American lead. As they say, “Like our world, it will be richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today.”
It will also be ripe for cameo appearances. Could we finally be getting ourselves some more Spike?
We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this one and will keep you updated. Now, let some ace memories gat all floody and backy…
