Lizzie Borden was an American woman tried and acquitted of the 1892 axe murders of her father and stepmother. She has since gained infamy and her story continues to fascinate. As such, we get Lizzie.

Chloë Sevigny plays the suspected killer – despite being acquitted, it seemed rather obvious that she was the culprit, with her step-mom dying from 17 axe blows and her father from 11 – and Kristen Stewart plays maid Bridget Sullivan.

This take on the tale looks rather full-on, and sees the lonely Borden befriending housemaid Sullivan, in whom she sees a kindred spirit, and examines the days leading up to the savage crime.

Lizzie opens in the US next month – we await an Australian date.
