From Sherlock to The Imitation Game, it seems that Benedict Cumberbatch has a predilection for portraying historical smartypantses – be they fictional or real. Now he’s getting his Edison on in The Current War.

We all take electricity for granted – well, until a blackout occurs. The Current War, which also stars Michael Shannon, Nicholas Hoult, Tuppence Middleton and Tom Holland, tells the story of how it all came about, with a cutthroat race between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse as to whose electrical system would be the one to eventually power the world.

We all know who succeeded in the end, but from the teaser trailer below we’re still super-keen to see this historical docudrama. If it’s half as good as The Imitation Game then it will certainly brighten our days.

Dreadfully pun-like thing there, sorry. Watt were we thinking?!

Ahem. Anyway, The Current War is due in Australian cinemas early in 2018.
