Something suspicious is going on, with the full movie of Pokémon Detective Pikachu leaking online – except it hasn’t. Although by the time you read this it very well may have.

The YouTube post from one “Inspector Pikachu” holds the watermark “R. Reynolds”, implying that it is the star’s preview copy that has been pirated. It runs to almost two hours and begins just as the movie does with the usual company credits, but we know that something’s up when the opening scene isn’t the movie’s actual opening scene. Then comes the 90-plus minutes of energetic Detetective Pikachu dancing…

It’s an elaborate, Deadpool-like marketing ploy, of course, and good fun – although we challenge anybody to watch the dance loop for its entirety.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu is now showing in Aussie cinemas. Catch our review here.
