David Bowie ignites the screen in the kaleidoscopic trailer for new documentary, Moonage Daydream.
The clips opens with a conundrum in voice-over: “Who is he? What is he? Where did he come from?” and even, “Is he a creature from a foreign power?” They’re all reasonable questions which tap into the legend of the man himself, whose androgynous persona once confused, shocked and excited legions of fans.
Directed by seasoned rockumentary filmmaker Brett Morgen (Cobain: Montage of Heck, Crossfire Hurricane), Moonage Daydream takes its title from the third track of the Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars album, and builds upon its mystery with a showcase of footage from Bowie’s long and eclectic career. Presented as a teaser, without narrative, the film suggests a big, brash and energetic exploration into the singer’s creative process and overall legacy.
Fans will be excited to know that the film features a treasure-trove of unseen footage, personal recordings, artwork and more, and promises to be the most personal and comprehensive account of David Bowie’s life and career ever committed to film – all-approved by the Bowie Estate, we might add.
Moonage Daydream is set to premier at the Cannes Film Festival this week, and will release theatrically later this year. We’ll keep you posted!
