It’s been hailed as one of the greatest TV series of all time, yet Old West drama Deadwood survived only three years before unceremoniously finishing on us.

Talk of a rebirth via movie – in total Firefly/Serenity style – has swirled for a while, but when HBO chiefs start talking it up it’s hard not get all hopeful and all.

Variety reports that HBO’s original programming chief, Casey Bloys, says that he’s quite impresssed with a script that he’s been given by Deadwood creator David Milch.

“I wanted a script that would stand on its own. I’m happy to say that David totally delivered on that. It’s a terrific script,” Bloys said. “If we can do it for a budget that makes sense for us, if we can find a director and we can get the cast together – it’s no easy task – we’re inclined to do it.”

Here’s hoping there’s as much love for the series amongst its stars such as Timothy Olyphant, Ian McShane, Molly Parker and Brad Dourif as there is from the viewing public.

Warning: As per the actual show, this trailer contains some fruity language…
