The bloke who brought us everything from the Alan Partridge shows to Veep is taking a stab at Dickens in The Personal History of David Copperfield.

As you’ve likely guessed, it’s based on the Charles Dickens classic David Copperfield, but one look at the trailer reveals that it does tend to go somewhat off-script. This is certainly no stuffy period piece.

It stars Dev Patel (it’s a double dose of Dev day with the trailer also dropping for The Green Knight) as the titular character.

Also starring Tilda Swinton, Hugh Laurie, Peter Capaldi, Gwendoline Christie, Ben Whishaw, Benedict Wong and Paul Whitehouse, The Personal History of David Copperfield opens in Australian cinemas on March 26.
