The next series of classic Doctor Who to be rounded up in a limited edition Blu-ray box set is Colin Baker’s first season as the sixth Doctor.

While Colin Baker had already made a manic debut in the final story of Season 21, The Twin Dilemma, Season 22 gave fans a proper look at this colourful new Doctor in action against a host of iconic monsters – Daleks, Cybermen and Sontarans. It also featured the return of second Doctor Patrick Troughton and his companion, Jamie (Frazer Hines).

Baker’s brash take on the role polarised fans but fortunately the stories in Season 22 were, for the most part, good ones – Attack of the Cybermen, Vengeance on Varos, The Mark of the Rani, The Two Doctors, Timelash and Revelation of the Daleks.

Originally broadcast from January to March in 1985, Season 22 was also notable for being the first – and last – of the classic series to feature 45-minute episodes.

The eleventh volume in the ongoing Collection series of box sets (and the second to feature Baker’s Doctor), Season 22 continues the trend of curating a wealth of bonus content including exclusive new features and archival material from the BBC vault.

Extras include a brand new documentary on The Two Doctors; extended episodes of Vengeance on Varos, The Two Doctors (Part One) and Revelation of the Daleks (Part One); updated special effects for Timelash; Matthew Sweet in conversation with Colin Baker, Nicola Bryant, and BBC1 Controller at the time, Michael Grade; exclusive new audio commentaries; rare behind-the-scenes material; the complete radio serial Slipback, and a whole lot more.

Ready for reassessment by Whovians, Doctor Who: Classic Season 22 – The Collection will be available for a limited time while stocks last. An official release date is yet to be announced, but you can avoid FOMO and PRE-ORDER your copy right now.
