Fans of Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Watson be prepared, as the forthcoming seventh season of Elementary will be its last.
Filming has been completed on the finale of the 13-episode season, and CBS have confirmed that it will be the last that we’ll get to see of the Robert Doherty-created show.
“Rob set out to tell a story,” executive producer Carl Beverly told Deadline, “and it feels like he has accomplished what he had set out to do. The actors, the crew and the cast feel that way, and we feel that. So are grateful and celebrating what we had and looking forward to the future.”
Many thought that events at the end of the sixth season would have wrapped things up nicely (we won’t give spoilers out of respect for those who may be behind, or somehow may not have discovered this fab series as yet), and it was written as an apparent possible ending if required.
As for the future of the pair? One intriguing element of the final series will be a time jump. It happened in Arthur Conan Doyle’s books of Holmes and Watson, so there is precedent. It will also offer an opportunity to follow up on the odd “will they or won’t they?” plot elements for each character.
No air date has been announced for Elementary season 7 as yet.
