The special Halloween-timed Treehouse of Horror episodes of The Simpsons have given us some pretty scary stuff over the years, from recycling most every plot from The Twilight Zone to a take on The Shini– erm, The Shinning.

Hey, we don’t want to get sued!

Anyway, while one of the chapters in Season 17’s Treehouse of Horror XVI saluted The Exorcist, there’s nothing like having somebody who was involved in the real thing jumping onboard.

TV Line reports that William Friedkin, Oscar-winning director of The Exorcist (and other horroriffic stuff like The Twilight Zone, Tales from the Crypt and Laura Branigan’s Self Control music video…) will appear as a guest voice in this years Treehouse of Horror (which will be number XXVIII, or ’28’ if roman numerals just aren’t your thing).

The Simpsons - Treehouse of Horror

Friedkin is set to voice a character named Dr Kenneth Humphries, in a chapter called MMM… Homer which has everything to do with Homer running out of food and subsequently cannibalising himself (and nothing to do with an Australian radio station).

In another The Exorcist relationship in this episode, Ben Daniels – who plays Father Marcus Keane in The Exorcist TV series – will voice a priest in another part of this Treehouse, a chapter named Exor-sis.

While we wait for that, watch this – Guillermo Del Toro’s ace reference-drenched (woo, Hypnotoad!) opening couch gag for Treehouse of Horror XXIV
