While he only filled the role for one series, Christopher Eccleston heralded the return to our TVs of Doctor Who, and remains a fan favourite.

The BBC have announced that he’s now set to return to the role after 15 years, but not in a televisual sense.

Instead, Eccleston will front a series of 12 audio adventures that are set to be made available as downloads, as well as on vinyl and CD.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that we’ll have to wait until May 2021 for them to commence.

Says Eccleston of his return, after avoiding most things Who for many years, “After 15 years it will be exciting to revisit the Ninth Doctor’s world, bringing back to life a character I love playing.”
