Colin Farrell is almost unrecognisable as The Penguin in The Batman, and we’ll be able to not recognise the actor a whole lot more now that a spinoff series has been confirmed.
Simply called The Penguin currently – and really that works fine, so it doesn’t need changing – HBO have gone right ahead and ordered a series without faffing about with pilots and suchlike.
With the series centred on Gotham City’s cigar-chomping villain, it’s set to give us more insight into this version of this world’s Oswald Cobblepot. Earlier reports, when the show was but an idea rather than a confirmed thing, it was mooted that it would take a “Scarface-like spin” on the baddie’s life story.
The show will be helmed by Lauren LeFranc, who’s previously written for the likes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Chuck, while The Batman director Matt Reeves is also set to be involved in an executive producer capacity.
