OK, so those behind the movie haven’t actually seen sense and cast the Firefly legend as Naughty Dog’s intrepid explorer guy, but Nathan Fillion has done the next best thing – taken part in an Uncharted short film.
It’s totally unofficial, but serves to prove a point that many have agreed with even before the thought of an Uncharted movie became a thing – that Nathan Fillion pretty much IS Nathan Drake. Beyond sharing a first name, we’d be very surprised if Fillion’s Firefly character Mal Reynolds didn’t provide heavy inspirational fodder to Naughty Dog for their 2007 PS3 game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.
It’s all academic though, as for some reason the producers of the Uncharted movie seem to think that the latest Spider-Man, Tom Holland, somehow embodies Drake. We just can’t see it (but will happily be proven wrong), although rumoured casting of Bryan Cranston as Drake’s offsider Sully does make sense.
Fillion took to Instagram to announce the short, posting:
“This is something I’ve wanted to do, but more importantly, something I’ve wanted to see for a long time. If you’ve ever pinned a towel around your neck for a cape or donned a fedora and nearly put your eye out with a homemade whip, this is for you. Thank you, @allanungar, for letting us all scratch this itch. Thank you, @naughty_dog_inc, for creating such a wonderful archetype. Thank you fans, for your excellent taste. You know who you are. Enjoy.”
So, sit back and revel in this wonderful taste of just what might have been…
