There’s an old saying that you’re the predator until you become the prey. 20th Century Studios have just dropped the first trailer for the upcoming film Prey, which is the fifth instalment of the Predator franchise.
The trailer offers our first glimpse into the pre-colonial American setting, with a brief depiction of the Predator’s first visit to Earth as it hones its iconic three-pointed heat-ray upon the forehead of a Comanche woman and a child.
Amber Midthunder (TV’s Legion) stars, alongside the likes of Dane DiLiegro, Stefany Mathias, Dakota Beavers and Stormee Kipp.
Little has been revealed about the film’s plot aside from the basic premise of it being a prequel story about a Native American woman who protects her tribe from the threat of an alien enemy.
The Predator franchise remains a favourite amongst science fiction fans, despite the sequels being critically panned. While the dystopian stylings of 1990’s Predator 2 have earned it a certain cult following over time, the subsequent sequels failed to connect with critics and audiences alike, thus putting a lot of pressure on director Dan Trachtenberg to deliver the goods.
Trachtenberg’s previous film, 10 Cloverfield Lane, was widely praised and has earned itself a legion of devoted fans, which in turn gives hope that Prey may be the brutal and savage exploit that they’ve been waiting for.
That wait is almost over, as Prey is scheduled to hit in early June.
