In a change of pace from his fab fun action fare, Dwayne Johnson is returning to his regal roots (you know, that scorpion thing) for The King.
Set to be directed by none other than Mr Back to the Future, Robert Zemeckis, Mr The Rock will star as legendary Hawaiian king Kamehameha in an epic historical drama.
If that isn’t impressive enough, the script is being penned by the scribe behind Braveheart – could this be the most full-on D.J. movie yet?
The role has apparently been a long-held aim for Johnson, dating right back to those Scorpion King days, so this opportunity to honour his Polynesian roots is a big thing. It seems that this desire came to the fore once more while filming Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle in Hawaii and, let’s face it, now that he’s so bankable Johnson can get pretty much anything made.
Deadline reports that there was quite a bidding war for the title, and production is set to commence sometime in 2020.
While you wait, have some classic The Rock action…
