To what lengths would you go to reconnect if you were estranged from your child? Hopefully not the extremes that we’ll get in the upcoming I Love My Dad.

Patton Oswalt stars as the titular dad, Chuck. He’s estranged from his son, Franklin, who wants nothing to do with him to the extent that he’s blocking him from socials. However, Chuck’s a determined chap, so he sets up online impersonating a real-life waitress, for whom his son starts falling, with a desire to meet her… Eww! Hello catfishing nightmare.

If you’re into cringe comedy then this one from writer/director James Morosini, who also plays Franklin, should be right up your alley. That it’s based on his real life experience with his own father just makes it all the more several kinds of  creepy and weird.

The very funny Rachel Dratch also stars, as do Lil Rel Howery, Ricky Velez, Amy Landecker and Claudia Sulewski.

I Love My Dad is set for an overseas release in early August. Here’s a teaser, with a little bit of a LANGUAGE WARNING required – set cringe to “stun”…
