The Art of Racing in the Rain is the tale of somebody driven to be the best racer there is – and they’re also a dog. Hmm, maybe he can live vicariously through his owner?

This peculiar-sounding premise won’t be so odd-sounding to those who are fans of the best-selling novel of the same name by Garth Stein, which obviously this is based around.

The dog, Enzo (named, we’re guessing, after Mr Ferrari), narrates the tale – and sounds remarkably like Kevin Costner as he does so. We learn of how he and his human, Danny Swift (good name for an aspiring racer, that) first met, and get to witness Danny’s life through the prism of a doggy philosopher. Or something like that.

Milo Ventimiglia stars as Danny, alongside the likes of Amanda Seyfried, Gary Cole and Kathy Baker.

We love a good woofer flick, and this one looks right up the same emotional-wallop alley as the likes of Marley & Me and A Dog’s Journey.

The Art of Racing in the Rain is currently set for an Australian cinema release on September 26.
