While we’re not going to pretend for a second that licorice on pizza sounds at all tempting, the opposite can be said for the upcoming slice of ’70s life, Licorice Pizza.

The latest written and directed by effort from Paul Thomas Anderson, and full-length movie follow-up to 2017’s Phantom Thread, takes us to one of his favourite places, San Fernando Valley, in 1973. This was also the setting for his previous movies Magnolia, Punch Drunk Love and Boogie Nights.

It’s a story about first love, in this case revolving around Alana Kane (played by the band Haim’s Alana Haim) and aspiring actor Gary Valentine (Cooper Hoffman, son of Philip Seymour Hoffman).

The flick has some pretty big names on the casting sheet, including Bradley Cooper, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Sean Penn, John C. Reilly, Maya Rudolph, Ben Stiller and Tom Waits.

Licorice Pizza is “coming soon” to Australian cinemas. Take a look:
