With Tarantino heading back to the 1960s for his next flick, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, he’s going to need some authentic locations. If this video is anything to go by, the production designers have delivered.
Captured by YouTuber Phil Grishayev (apparently on a potato – O… K…), the clip shows a downtown Los Angeles street given the time warp treatment for the movie, as cars and buses go backwards and forwards, authentically-dressed extras mill about, things that you can’t advertise nowadays get advertised and people trying to get from A to B sit in their modern cars in a cross street all frustrated as they’re being held up.
According to Tarantino, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is “a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), former star of a western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth ( Brad Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognise anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor… Sharon Tate.”
Beyond DiCaprio and Pitt, the flick is set to star Margot Robbie, Burt Reynolds, Timothy Olyphant, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Damian Lewis, Luke Perry, Emile Hirsch, Dakota Fanning, Clifton Collins Jr, James Marsden, Scoot McNairy and Al Pacino. That really is some cast.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was recently moved forward in the release schedule slightly – possibly to avoid garnering more grief over it’s dodgy timing with the 50th anniversary of the Manson murders on August 8. It’s now expected to hit Australian cinemas on July 25, 2019.
