After popping back in time for a string of big budget flicks like Aladdin, King Arthur and Sherlock Holmes, Guy Ritchie will revisit his filmmaking roots with the crime action of The Gentlemen.

A trailer has dropped, and it oozes the same sort of gritty London underworld charm that made us fall for Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and RocknRolla.

The cast is pretty impressive, too. Matthew McConaughey stars alongside Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Eddie Marsan, Jeremy Strong, Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant. The latter is doing his bad guy thing again, and the snippets we see hint that Mr Grant may be just as engaging at it here as he was in the superb Paddington 2.

As for story, the simple synopsis goes thusly: “A very British drug lord tries to sell off his highly profitable empire to a dynasty of Oklahoma billionaires.”

We’ll be able to get acquainted with The Gentlemen in Australian cinemas early in 2020.
