Having received rave reviews at Sundance, new horror flick Hereditary – which stars Toni Collette – looks like one for those who dig the scary stuff to jot down in their diaries. Preferably in red pen.
Sitting pretty at Rotten Tomatoes currently with a 100% rating, one critic went as far as to claim, “Hereditary takes its place as a new generation’s The Exorcist.”
Them’s big shoes to fill!
The story goes something like this: Following the death of family matriarch Ellen, her daughter’s family start discovering freaky – and terrifying – secrets about their ancestry. It seems that the more they learn, the quicker they head towards a sinister fate that they’ve inherited.
His feature film debut, Hereditary was written and directed by Ari Aster, while as well as Collette it also stars Gabriel Byrne and Ann Dowd.
Want a small taste of the creepiness to come when Hereditary hits Aussie cinemas later this year? OK then, here you go…
