Direct from the “Why?” department comes what is basically a remake of Christmas classic Home Alone, entitled Home Sweet Home Alone.
Here’s the rather familiar sounding official summary: “Max Mercer is a mischievous and resourceful young boy who has been left behind while his family is in Japan for the holidays. So when a married couple attempting to retrieve a priceless heirloom set their sights on the Mercer family’s home, it is up to Max to protect it from the trespassers… and he will do whatever it takes to keep them out. Hilarious hijinks of epic proportions ensue, but despite the absolute chaos, Max comes to realise that there really is no place like home sweet home.”
Hey, how did they get to fly to Japan and we had to cancel our trip? Oh yeah, there’s no COVID in movie land.
If the kid looks familiar, that’s may be because it’s Archie Yates from the superb Jojo Rabbit. Other starring roles go to Ellie Kemper (Kimmy!), Rob Delaney, Aisling Bea, Kenan Thompson, Tim Simons, Pete Holmes, Devin Ratray, Ally Maki and Chris Parnell (aka 30 Rock‘s Dr Spaceman).
Home Sweet Home Alone is set to air in November – or you could watch the super-fun original again, which is now available in lovely 4K.
