It’s been a while since Hugh Grant has done something for the telly, but the BBC have managed to lure him to star with Ben Whishaw in an adaptation of author John Preston’s true crime novel A Very English Scandal.
Grant is playing British MP Jeremy Thorpe, who stood trial in 1979 for conspiring to murder his ex, Norman Scott (Whishaw), in order to keep their relationship a secret and, theoretically at least, save his poilitical career. Cad! Swine! Bounder!
A three-part miniseries, A Very English Scandal is being directed by a very English man in Stephen Frears (The Queen, Victoria and Abdul), while Preston’s work has been adapted for the screen by Russell T. Davies (Queer as Folk, Doctor Who).
Here’s the full promo shot of Hugh and Ben, just to prove that they do indeed still possess legs…
