It should be inconceivable, but apparently the perfectly formed film that is The Princess Bride has been mooted for a remake.
BOO! BOO!
The bombshell was dropped in a Variety feature, by Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra. It’s far from confirmation of it actually happening, but in the current climate of remake, reboot, remodel, we’re a tad disturbed that it’s even been put out there.
We’re not alone, with both fans and stars of the ageless movie that has everything – fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles – expressing their disbelief. Chief amongst these are Cary Elwes, aka Westley, who posted this to Twitter:
There’s a shortage of perfect movies in this world. It would be a pity to damage this one. https://t.co/5N8Q3P2e5G

Still, as is the case with all remakes, we would always have the original to revel in. Our issue is more the time (and money) spent on recycling nowadays, rather than creating new stories to thrill moviegoers now and generations in the future. Is the creative well really that dry?
