Illumination, the people behind the Despicable Me movies, have been busy working on an official Super Mario Bros. feature, and casting has been announced.
There are some pretty wild names in here, although many are up in arms – and fair enough too – that the actual voice of Mario, Charles Martinet, has been kicked to “surprise cameo” status by Chris Pratt, who’ll be getting his red shirt and blue overalls on to voice the hero of the piece like he did in The LEGO Movie and its sequel.
Beyond Pratt, the voice cast looks a lot like this: Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
Here it all is in graphical form:

Super Mario Bros. (the precise name seems to be a little up in the air currently) is expected to release around Christmas, 2022.
