The new take on Stephen King’s Firestarter is almost ready to set screens alight, courtesy of modern day horror maestros Blumhouse.

If you’re not up with the story from the last time that it hit our screens back in 1984, Firestarter goes much like this: “A girl with extraordinary pyrokinetic powers fights to protect her family and herself from sinister forces that seek to capture and control her.”

Zac Efron and Sydney Lemmon star as the parents of the girl in question, Charlie, who’s played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong. Kurtwood Smith, John Beasley, Michael Greyeyes and Gloria Reuben also star.

Firestarter is being directed by Keith Thomas, who last gave us The Vigil, while John Carpenter teams with Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies to deliver the score.

Firestarter is currently expected to release in Aussie cinemas this coming May. Here’s the fiery official trailer:
