A while back we learned that the incredibly talented folk at Aardman are making a Chicken Run sequel. Now we get a quick peek at it – that’s it, just above.

Chicken Run remains the highest grossing stop-motion animated film ever, and this sequel, the ominously-named Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, will see Ginger and Rocky living in a human-free nirvana as proud parents of a baby named Molly, who – like most kids nowadays – grows up very quickly.

Here’s the full, official word: “Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger has finally found her dream – a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world. When she and Rocky hatch a little girl called Molly, Ginger’s happy ending seems complete. But back on the mainland the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk – this time, they’re breaking in!”

Ginger and Rocky may sound a wee bit different this time out, however, for original voices Julie Sawalha and Mel Gibson have been replaced by Thandiwe Newton and Zachary Levi.

Sam Fell, who directed Aardman’s computer animated Flushed Away and co-directed Laika’s ParaNorman, is directing proceedings.

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is due sometime in 2023. While we wait, here’s a quick reminder of the clucking brilliant original:
