It’s 50 years since Francis Ford Coppola’s watershed mob flick The Godfather released, and we all get to join in the celebrations as it – and its two sequels – come to 4K Ultra HD.

A new trailer has just arrived for the upcoming box set, as if we weren’t excited for its release enough already. Watch it down below.

Being billed as “the essential, definitive saga of the Corleone family”, the films have undergone a painstaking restoration and remastering process, overseen by Coppola, that took thousands of hours. The result is the trilogy in native 4K, complete with Dolby Vision HDR enhancement.

What will be of interest to many is that while the set features The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, the third entry in the trilogy is represented by both the original release of 1990’s The Godfather III and the 2020 recut , Mario Puzo’s The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone.

Said Francis Ford Coppola of this new re-release: “I am very proud of The Godfather, which certainly defined the first third of my creative life. With this 50th anniversary tribute, I’m especially proud Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone is included, as it captures Mario and my original vision in definitively concluding our epic trilogy. It’s also gratifying to celebrate this milestone with Paramount alongside the wonderful fans who’ve loved it for decades, younger generations who still find it relevant today, and those who will discover it for the first time.”

The Godfather trilogy on 4K Ultra HD is set for an Australian release on March 30 in standard and special limited edition guises. Pre-order now at JB Hi-Fi.
