The upcoming origin story TV series of Batman’s butler Alfred, Pennyworth, has found its leading man.

According to Deadline, Brit Jack Bannon (TV’s Endeavour) has been cast in the title role of the series, which comes from Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller.

As those who watch Gotham will know, charming and cheeky chappie Alfred – played there by Sean Pertwee – has a military past. This 1o-episode series will explore his post-SAS young years, wherein he formed a security company and hooked up with some bloke named Thomas Wayne…

American Wayne – AKA, of course, Batman’s dad – will be played by another Brit in Ben Aldridge (Our Girl‘s Captain James).

There’s no air date as yet for this very British Bat-production.

Meanwhile, the fifth and final series of Gotham is shaping up as a big one, with young Bruce Wayne heading ever closer to becoming Batman, and the likelihood of the supervillainous Bane finally showing his ugly mug.
