From Lin-Manuel Miranda and Crazy Rich Asians‘ Jon M Chu, there’s a new musical movie that’s comin’ at you…

Right, now that we’ve established that we suck at rhyme, let’s bin it and just give the facts.

As you may remember from when a trailer first hit back in 2019, In the Heights is set to fuse Lin-Manuel Miranda’s music and lyrics with John M Chu’s directorial flair, for what is being billed as “a cinematic event”.

The synopsis goes like this: “Lights up on Washington Heights… The scent of a cafecito caliente hangs in the air just outside of the 181st Street subway stop, where a kaleidoscope of dreams rallies this vibrant and tight-knit community. At the intersection of it all is the likeable, magnetic bodega owner Usnavi, who saves every penny from his daily grind as he hopes, imagines and sings about a better life.”

Starring Anthony Ramos (Broadway’s Hamilton), Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton), singer/songwriter Leslie Grace, Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Stephanie Beatriz, Dascha Polanco (TV’s Orange is the New Black) and Jimmy Smits, In the Heights is finally set to light up screens later this year.
